Christmas in Slovakia
Who doesn't love Christmas? Who doesn't love the smell of hot chocolate, cinnamon, green Christmas tree? We all love the spicy aromas of Christmas cakes, and we cannot imagine Christmas without our traditions.
Christmas is definitely the most wonderful time of the year! In Slovakia, Christmas is a religious and cultural celebration commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ. The traditional Christmas narrative says that Jesus was born in Bethlehem, in accordance with messianic prophecies. Although the month and date of Jesus' birth are unknown, the church fixed the date as December 25. In Slovakia, we start celebrating Christmas on 24 December, which is known as "Generous Day."
